[UPDATE] – Capcom release a statement as to why the game will not appear on switch…
Down but certainly not out, Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 has been announced by Capcom. The original Mega Man Legacy Collection was released digitally on August 25th, 2015 and later physically in 2016 on all major platforms and the Nintendo 3DS. The original package contained the following titles:
- Mega Man
- Mega Man 2
- Mega Man 3
- Mega Man 4
- Mega Man 5
- Mega Man 6
Additional content included an expansive challenge mode, replay mode, and an achievement/leader board system as well as a digital museum. I personally enjoyed this game on both PC/Steam and Nintendo 3DS
The original game released with some fan backlash as many fans feel the series is in dire need of a new entry and in less need of re-releases. Many also criticized the game for lacking the rest of the series games even if not all 8bit (Mega Man: The Power Battle, anyone?). Some argued that Mega Man 9 and 10 should have been included as they are in 8bit fashion and would have felt at home with the original package.
Regardless, the second game has been announced and I’m excited to dive in and have it join my Mega Man collection, sitting along side the PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection. A discussion on game selection and content will be saved for a future review. The game releases August 8th 2017.
Nintendo switch would be an excellent candidate for this for this game as the Mega Man franchise started on Nintendo Hardware. Additionally the Nintendo Switch lacks a virtual console for which the original games could be enjoyed… Mega Man Legacy Collection 1 & 2 for switch? Capcom could make it happen! From a canceled Astroboy game came our lovable Blue Bomber, we are hoping he sticks around specially after his recent appearance in Super Smash Bros for Wii U & 3DS.
