During the briefing Phil Spencer stated that E3 2017’s Press Conference would be different, would debut with the largest and most diverse line up ever shown on stage for the company, 42 Games, 22 console exclusives.

42 Games & 22 Console Exclusives | My Impressions

Below is a detailed list of the games as well as some impressions for the games on my radar.

  • Forza Motorsport 7 – Launches October 3rd 2017 *Console Exclusive + Windows 10*
    • Porsche 911 GT2 RS Reveal was neat; knowing Forza one of the largest racing communities in the world is very impressive. However, the game running at native 4K at 60fps is what blew me away!
  • METRO EXODUS – Releases 2018
    • Extremely impressive, the atmosphere was intense when mutants were on screen, but eerie enough on its own when just traversing the environment without enemies around, defiantly on my radar for sure. Open world elements, devs calling it sandbox survival horror. Reveal of Metro Exodus was running on a PC, unfortunately. This trailer has encouraged me to look into previous entries in the franchise.
  • Assassins Creed Origins – Launches October 27th 2017
    • If I were to get into this series, this would be the game to get me in! Game is gorgeous and I can really appreciate the mythical setting of ancient Egypt. Seeing that this is an origin story it might be easier to get into as far as understanding the enormous and complex lore of Assassins Creed. Creative Director, Jean Guesdon, of Ubisoft took to the stage and explained how Egypt is the birth place of the Assassins brotherhood. The game will run in 4K UHD, and HDR on the Xbox One X.
  • PlayerUnknown’s BattlegroundsXbox One X launch title
    • PC title making its console debut on Xbox One, with Xbox One X enchantments.
  • Deep Rock GalacticXbox One X launch title
    • PC title making its console debut on Xbox One, with Xbox One X enchantments.
  • State Of Decay 2 – Releases Spring 2018 *Console Exclusive*
    • Sequel to XBLA/Steam game State Of Decay which is a survival horror, action zombie game.
  • The Darwin ProjectXbox One X launch title
    • The presentation of this title bothered me as they have already started marketing it, via press conference, as an esports title. Hopefully it succeeds but I wasn’t sold on the idea as it came across as a horror/survival multiplayer game with the cartoon silliness you find in games like Overwatch, but a lot less charming.
    • Making its console debut on Xbox One, with Xbox One X enchantments.
  • MinecraftXbox One X launch title
    • Minecraft is getting a fall update which features 4K, Xbox One X enchantments and will add features to the existing titles across other platforms, including Nintendo Switch, Mobile, and PC systems. Crossplay is a feature that will be included on these platforms, except for Sony who isn’t playing nice in the sandbox…

  • Cuphead *Console Exclusive + Windows 10*
    • I’ve been looking forward to this since its first reveal. Looks like Gunstar Heroes with a classic cartoon theme on top. I’m excited to play this game day one as it looks extremely refreshing in what might be considered a dead genre (overlooking Nier Automata’s inclusion of similar gameplay at times).
  • Crackdown 3 *Console Exclusive*
  • ID@XBOX Montage including 19 additional titles

Final Thoughts

Honestly, I was impressed with Microsoft Xbox’s Press Conference. The previous years, for them, have been some of the driest and weakest of the bunch (overlooking everything Nintendo did in 2016 which was nothing short of a disaster). Looking forward to the Xbox One X and enjoying Halo 5 in crisp 1080p without any frame drops. Maybe by that time I will have invested in a 4K TV, as of now I’m not particularly sold on 4K.
