Less than an hour ago the Official Sonic The Hedgehog YouTube Channel posted another amazing in-game sample of some of the music we can expect from their upcoming title Sonic Mania. This particular track many long time fans will recognize as a remix to Sonic CD’s Stardust Speedway.
Sonic Mania is less than 15 days away!
Personally, I’m extremely excited to play this game and have had a few experiences with the title already. Last year, during San Diego Comic Con, Sega had hosted the Sonic The Hedgehog 25th Anniversary Party on July 22nd 2016. This event marked my first chance to get a hold of the game and instantly loved it. The first thing I noticed was that the game looked like a retro Sonic Genesis title. However, the first thing I felt, once I took control of the character, Sonic; was the in-game physics. The game actually felt like a Sonic Game! Well, unlike Sonic 4 or Sonic Rivals which had sub par Sonic physics. To me, at the time, the game felt like it might even have been built off Sonic 3 & Knuckles. Again, even at E3 2017, I got to play Sonic Mania and tried out Knuckles The Echidna and could even do his glide cancel, while hitting an exploding box, to send knuckles flying into the air while gliding!!! I’m not sure if that was a bug or glitch but it was something I abused when I was a kid playing S3&K. After my short session with the game at E3 SEGA rewarded me with a Sonic Mania poster which I promptly laminated and hung.
Sonic Mania is Visually Stunning!
Sonic Mania originally was due for early 2017 or spring of 2017 but was pushed back for reasons unknown. It might have been to add more to the title or even because of the recent artwork promoted with the latest trailer. This artwork really does the character justice and brings back nostalgic feelings of happiness and excitement I had when playing Sonic CD. It was only recently that I found out those animated cut scenes had been animated by Toei Animation.

Sonic Mania’s OST Alone Could Sell The Game
The game’s composer is artist “Tee Lopes“, who’s had previous experience working with Sega and Christian Whitehead (Sonic Mania’s Programmer) on the android version of Sonic 2. Personally, I feel the game’s current sampling of tracks carries the same atmospheric energy and charisma, blending music of various genres and tempos, that games such as Sonic CD & Sonic 3 & Knuckles delivered for their games many years ago. I strongly feel that the game’s music is in great hands and that Tee Lopes is doing the game justice.

SEGA & Sonic Fans want Sonic Mania to do well
I feel that both SEGA and Sonic fans really want Sonic Mania to do well. Honestly, even the way the series is handled in the future may depend on how successful this title is. Unfortunately, after terrible games such as Sonic 06, and Sonic Boom and mediocre titles like Sonic Lost World, right after the successful Sonic Generations, there seems to be a ton of inconsistency and consumer confusion with regards to the idea of more sonic games. Sonic Forces seems to have gone back to what worked, Generations formula over Lost World, but I believe the mainstream is still negative on the idea of anymore sonic games. I really hope that Sonic Mania and the upcoming Sonic Forces can do it’s best to alleviate quality concerns, specially because SEGA as a brand seems to be on the up-and-up.
